The PS4 Holy Ground

The promotion was for 31 days. I gave everyone a 14 day head start. Only 8 people got more points than me in the end. I’M SO BALLER LIKE!

Everyone wants to know how much I lost, what did the PS4 cost me. I was conscious about not posting results during other updates as I was aware they would be swingy. I was winning 1.2k after 3 days, then dwindled down to BE and then to -£500 for a period, the day before the end of the promotion I was up £200. It came to rest at a final loss of 550 quid on the tables. I wasn’t expecting to lose, and wish I had ended up with a positive winrate over the course of the month, but it was not to be. So why did I lose?

1. Too many tables. Most of my sessions I was playing 8-14 tables. That’s a lot. On Sky there is no timebank, you have 15 seconds then you’re out. To try and make accurate decisions in this time over so many tables had a real impact on my ability to make +ev decisions obviously. And I timed out of prolly 1k worth of +ev spots :D. A lot of people will believe this is the sole reason why I lost, but I disagree, I think I should still be +ev 14 tabling.
2. Not quitting. A big part of playing profitable poker revolves around you playing when you’re at your best, and quitting when you are not playing well or that you feel you might be tilting. I think i’m particular good at this skill and never usually play when I’m not enjoying it. But for the amount of hours I had to put in, I just had to play even when feeling like I really did not want to. This was escpeically true when the enhanced point hours where running and I could not afford to stop playing.
3. Playing Tired. I work full time, and smashing these hours in every night after work took its toll. It was exhausting to never have a rest time, and definitely damaging  to my decision making skills.
4. Too aggro. In marginal situations I was always taking the loosest option because it meant more points. So when I had close opens and close calls, I’d always elect to take the option which would equal the most points. This equaled a higher variance game and me often not taking the most +ev lines.
5. Unlucky. Everyone ran like absolute God against me, I didn’t have  set in the whole 2 weeks and only flopped a pair twice.

Luckily for me I also recieved 30% rakeback for this month. Which ended up being £970.

So final breakdown is:
Profit/Loss in game: -£550
Rakeback: £970
Playstation bundle worth: ~£400
So I win about £820

£420 and a Playstation bundle. Financially it was worth the 2 weeks commitment. So that’s good. But I think it’s given me more than this. I know the money isn’t too significant of an amount but I’d go as a far as to say that this has been my biggest poker achievement to date (Not that there is a vast amount of them to choose from). The way I intended to do this, planned effectively, committed to the cause, had the determination to battle through, and closed off the deal. Sick achievement. It’s definitely added something to my poker game and probably more important added something to me as a person. I have proved that I can not be written off.

What is next? I’m sure another challenge will be around the corner.

on to the next one

Where’s your PS4?

I said I would do it, and done it have do.

So i reached the dizzy heights of 10th.

This was the update from yesterday. On Tuesday I played a lot. I made 2.2k points in a day, with no enhancements. i’d say there must be less than a handful of people who have ever got this many points in a 24 hour period.

During the time i finally found my nemesis u_sud_fold playing omaha. Well that explains why I hadn’t seen him. I sat on the table and I didn’t take him long to say hello.

u_sud_fold: Bonjour Simmy4k

Simmy4k: What table is this? I couldn’t see it on the lobby

Simmy4k: oh its plo
u_sud_fold: so u cant catch me in the ps4 giveaway;-=))))
Simmy4k: :D:D:D:D
Simmy4k: im catching u bro
u_sud_fold: i no i cant play for rest on month now all urs
u_sud_fold: how many oints u got>>>??
Simmy4k: 17.5
Simmy4k: im off for rest of month
u_sud_fold: all urs then, u playing rest of month??
Simmy4k: aye every day
u_sud_fold: all urs i aint got time
u_sud_fold: yeah gutted i can only play little bits for rest of week
Simmy4k: ul, i would have liked the challenge
u_sud_fold: i might b bluffing
Simmy4k: *shrugs. gl if ur bluffing. u will need it 🙂
u_sud_fold:  i will only be playing 1hoour a day so happy to make 18k
Simmy4k: ill have to catch beaneh then for a challenge
Simmy4k: anyway screw omaha, too hard for me
Simmy4k:peace out

I suspect he was bluffing, because he went on to make 1.3k that day, which is still quite a lot. We will see today if he played much yesterday.

As I said to him, I don’t care if he plays or not. I will remain in that 10th spot now i’m there. How intimidating must that feel. I do not care what he does. I got into 10th as predicted. All i need to do now is stay here. I will remain vigilant up to the end. And will continue to play all I can up until midnight on Friday. No one will catch me. I’m still awaiting the update from yesterday’s figures. But people are leaving it late if they plan on staging an attack on my PS4.

Later on tuesday i played quite an interesting hand.

Apologies for those who can’t read Sky Poker Hand Histories. Basically I fold  AA on a QJTTT board following the villain check-raising turn and river.

I felt villain can only have quads here.

1. He 3bs JJ/QQ most of time, and xr on flop most of time if he dosn’t.
2. He dosn’t xr with any Js on turn and very few Qs. The Qs he does x with on turn just bet river themselves, or occaisonally xc.
3. If he is bluffing with xr on turn, he just goes ahead and continues with a bet on river if he wants to. He would never xr river as a bluff imo.

So we put the kid on quads, crazy narrow range. And we’ll never know if we are right? Well i sent hand into Sky Poker TV who showed it, with villains hole cards revealed after the hand. He had T5, bosh! Tikay said that it was a good fold on this occasion but if I was a regular in these games and playing comfortably it should be a call 100% of the time.

Yeh wp Tikay. WHERES YOUR PS4?

Yer you don’t know??? Though so.

Solving the Problems

Today is a special day.

It will be the day I go from 11th to 10th… hopefully.

going for 10

We are close and I can almost smell the brand new PS4 being pulled out of the packaging and into my arms finally.

This has not been easy to get where I am, it takes a whole bunch of characteristics that luckily just ooze out of me due to over production; Talent, Skill, Patience, Determination, Intelligence, sexiness, Ability to suck out, Ability to win flips, etc. I hear people have dropped out, people are burnt out, people are tired. The can’t continue to grind at this rate,  they can’t even grind at half this rate. Well I pity those people, I could do this for another month, i feel fresh, and refreshed.

“Well, let’s not start sucking eachother’s dicks quite yet” The Wolf, Pulp Fiction

There has been an interesting development, and it has shocked me. The guy in 10th place: u_sud_fold… he started grinding after me this month. He got on the leader board after me this month. I am not concerned, but this means he has grinded at a faster rate than me! He has a higher average points per day than me! He plays MTTs mostly, as far as I can tell anyway, which makes it even more peculiar. I’m impressed with my competitor, and what a valiant effort he has put forward. His days are numbered, however, numbered to 1. Because tomorrow I intend to be in that top 10. I did not expect this to happen, but that does not mean I think it is threatening my PS4. All it is, is a new challenge. And I love that shit.

I’ll leave you with another Pulp Fiction quote:

“Oh man. I shot Marvin in the face”

Replace Marvin with u_sud_fold, and it’s an apt metaphor for what’s gonna go down in the next 24 hours.

Sky Poker Blitzkrieg

Its been 2 days since the start of my campaign vs Sky and its grinders of the month. The race to the PS4. The war.

My first day I barely scratched the surface, I did however, make the leader board… just:

Yippie. But seriously me, sitting there. Just in the top 100. Looking up at all those places to beat. And more importantly the fear of those, looking down. I’m only on the horizon you bastards, but i’ll get there.

I was taking stock of what I needed to do. Weighing up my options, figuring out my enemy until the time was right. That time came yesterday

I attacked, my opponents where not as well prepared, as well supplied, they lacked the resources, the skills, the commitment, the determination that I had. I rolled through, NO! I smashed through any sign of resistance. These guys where no match.

Before the onslaught I contacted my good friend and one of Sky’s most proficient grinders Craig ‘Stacker59’ Mcdowell. He told me that on his best day ever he made somewhere between 1.5k and 2k points. I matched this on my first day of battle and made 1800 points.

And also established a much healthier position on the leader board. Those optimistic fellows with their fingers crossed had hoped this would all be a big hype. Well the realisation must have sunken in now, I am here.

I am aware there is a long way to go. Estimates have ranged that it will take between 18k-25k to win this PS4. Regardless of what it is, it will be a big ask. I will not underestimate the task that lies ahead. But my God, what a way to kick this off!

I won’t be able to put days like this down every day. But I shouldn’t need to. The thing is, if you want to hear something really mental, I barely tried. I also did a bunch of work around the house, took dog for walk and cooked dinner for wor lass. Also played 1/2 a season on fifa FUT because I felt as if my time with my xbox was coming to an end. There is more to come, to continue with the bad taste analogy: Poland has fallen. We now shift our plans for Belgium, Holland and France.

We’ll Be In Paris by February

Let’s get a PS4

Another year as turned up and i wasn’t feeling the mass opinion of ‘let’s be motivated this year’. That’s what sets me apart you see. I’m different from the crowd and turn my back on usual ways of thinking. That’s why i’m awesome. Especially at poker. So anyway a few days have gone past and we’re on the 12th. And now I am ready to do something extraordinary.

Sky Poker have currently got a promo where the top 10 grinders get a ps4 (It’s not really top 10 of everyone, to make it sound more of a feat we’ll ignore that). Have a look at the leader board at present.

top 10

And currently I have

my prio

So I’ve given them a bit of a head start. But let’s not forget the most important thing here… you can’t write me off. Everyone always does, and I always come out on top. So let’s spin this bad boy. Let’s get the ps4.

So before the grind starts, why the blog? why the need?

Well it’s to publicly humiliate the writeeroffs.

In before Simmy3k comes good as per. Prolly win 2 ps4s. i’ve got so much confidence in this, it’s unhealthy. Prolly higher risk of coronary heart disease, unfortunately I can’t write that off either. BECAUSE I’M UNWRITEOFFABLE.
